ARTIST RESUME …. MARY PRIOR
Mary Prior lives in Salt Lake City, and is best known
for her paintings of western landscapes.
She studied art and art history at Brigham Young
University. In addition, she has, throughout her artistic
career, taken various professional workshops to hone
her skills. However, she considers herself primarily
self taught. Having been drawing and painting since
childhood, she has developed her own distinctive style.
Although she originally started painting in oils, she prefers
to work in watercolor and acrylics. She enjoys painting
the panorama of scenes in the American west. Her paintings
reflect the incredible vegetation of the mountains and the
the stark beauty of the desert landscape.
Although she prefers to work in the controlled conditions
of her studio, she sometimes enjoys plein air painting in
good weather. Her work is original, and is often adapted
from photographs taken by her husband, Robert (also an artist)
as the two of them travel throughout the western states.
Her paintings have hung in the First Street Gallery in Salt
Lake City; as well as in one person shows at private
Her paintings now hang in many private collections
throughout the western United States.
