Robert Dunlap is a self-taught artist that got involved in shine and high gloss at a young age. While shining shoes, he learned to utilize different colors to bring out the richness of the leather and give the illusion of shine. As a car painter, he learned that once you have your base color of hue and you add your metallic, you can no longer go back to that solid color. While doing faux painting, he learned to use glazes and the allusion of texture and color. Through the use of high gloss and depth of color and glazes and texture, the viewer is presented with a floating illusion of tones and hues that tweak the senses and the imagination. Call it eye candy. The beauty of abstract art is that everyone sees something different. Clients have described his work as “full of energy and color, provocative and beautiful.” Mr. Dunlap says, “I’ve tried to apply all of these experiences to my painting. I hope you see something new or different every time you look at one of my paintings.”
