Fred is a mechanical engineer working in the railroad industry, but he has also been painting for all of his adult life. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for three years, majoring in illustration, industrial design, commercial art and architecture. After switching majors two times, he had doubts about what course he wanted to take, so he decided to enlist in the service. After serving in the Air Force for four years during Viet Nam, he decided to become a mechanical engineer, but he kept painting transportation subjects, concentrating on railroads. Although he has painted ships, planes, and racing cars, he prefers to paint steam locomotives, since in his opinion they have the look of dynamic life, even in a stationary painting. Fred's' work has been published on magazine covers, and hangs in railroad and railroad supplier corporate offices.
