Frances Dodd

Dodd's art education took place during four years of study at the Art Students League in New York City where she resided for most of her life. After being one of the first women artists elected to membership in the prestigious Salmagundi Club, the oldest professional artists' organization in America, she was invited to have a one person exhibit at that facility in 1980.

Dodd on her work:
'As a landscape painter, my objective is to present a personal and unique interpretation of the subject rather than portray a literal rendering. By simplifying and gently abstracting the image, I am better able to depict its essence and intrinsic nature. Imaginative interpretations of the landscape, together with exciting color choices help me to express my feeling about the subject.'

Since moving to Colorado in 1983 she has had more than 20 solo exhibits, the most recent at Casa D'Arte, Shreveport, Louisiana in November 2000. Other solo shows during the last five years have been at Wyndy Morehead Fine Arts, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1999; Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, Pueblo, Colorado, 1999; Desurmont Gallery, Taos, New Mexico, 1998; Nemick and Thompson Gallery, Pueblo Colorado, 1998; Wyndy Morehead Fine Arts, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1997; John Deaux Gallery, Pueblo Colorado, 1996 and Loveland Fine Arts Museum, Loveland, Colorado 1995.

Her paintings have been juried into national exhibits throughout the United States, including most recently, The Pastel Society of America, National Association of Women Artists, Artists of Colorado, Degas Pastel Society, Pastel Society of the Southwest and Pastel Society of New Mexico.

Dodd's work is included in the collections of Forbes Magazine; MCI Telecommunications Corp; American West Airlines; Rio Grande Museum, Del Norte, CO; Colorado Historical Society; Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, Pueblo, CO; and numerous other noted corporate and private collections.

Her work has been published in American Artist magazine, 1998 and 1997, The Artist magazine, 1993, Northlight magazine 1990 and Christian Science Journal, 2000.
